Homework Policy

HOMEWORK POLICY

Parents / Guardians:

Here’s how homework works for our class….

·         Students will be required to write their homework assignments in their planners everyday.   I write the assignments on the board and the students copy it down.

·          Students will be given homework Monday through Thursday

·         Students will be doing math and spelling daily (sometimes one of these will be substituted with a reading comprehension worksheet).  These assignments are due the next day

·         They will also be assigned a Reading Log and Fluency Read at the beginning of the week, which are due at the end of the week (Friday).  For the Reading Log, students are required to read for 15 minutes and write a summary about what they read each day.  Their summary must be at least 5 sentences or more.  Fluency Reads are to be done for one minute everyday.  Students are to read as fast as they can for one minute. Please record how many words were read subtracted from mistakes made for the total score.

·         Progress notes will be sent home at least once a month.  These progress notes are expected to be signed by the student’s guardian and returned by the end of the week.  The progress notes will inform the parents of what assignments students are missing from the previous week.  Please let me know if you would like me to email you the progress note. If so, please provide me with an email address.

·         Anytime students forget their homework or are missing a worksheet, it is their responsibility to ask the teacher for it.

·          It is also their job to find out what they missed for homework if they are absent or leave early.

·         Please remind students to put their name on ALL their homework pages.
